Robin Pontius ‘74, was inducted into the Titan Sports Hall of Fame with the all-time football team of 1983. The Laurel High School graduate was Westminster’s first Kodak College Division All-American in 1973, thus beginning a tradition of All-American safeties from Laurel (Eddie Goettle in 1976, Sammy Greenwood in 1985). To his All-American honor he added First Team All-District recognition in 1972 and 1973. During his four year career, the Titans compiled a record of 32-3-1 with final national rankings of  No. 1 in 1970, No. 2 in 1971 and No. 7 in both 1972 and 1973. Robin was the defensive captain of the 1973 team that allowed a season total of 65 points. During his three years as a starter, Titan defenses surrendered only 10.5 points per game. Robin was a ball-hawking safety man (11 career interceptions and 4 career fumble recoveries), but his ferocious tackling was the calling card by which No. 18 was known by Titan opponents. Robin’s son Ryan ‘98, a Titan golfer, posthumously joined his father in the Hall of Fame in 2022.
