Don McCaig was the hero in perhaps one of the biggest upsets in Westminster men's basketball history. McCaig scored the winning basket on a put-back as time expired in Westminster's 39-38 win over three-time defending national champion Tennessee A&I in the semifinal round of the NAIA national tournament in 1960. The Titans eventually lost to Southwest Texas State, 66-44, in the national championship game.

The 1959-60 Titans team ranks fourth in the school history for total wins and winning percentage with a record of 24-3. Overall during McCaig's three years as a letterman, the Titans posted a combined record of 56-23 for head coach Buzz Ridl, including two trips to the NAIA national tournament. McCaig scored 589 career points, including 290 (10.7 average) as a senior.

He was also the team's leading rebounder as a junior and senior.

McCaig, a 1960 Westminster graduate, resides in McMurray, Pa., with his wife Linda, a 1962 Westminster graduate. He is a self-employed insurance salesman.
