Not once during his four years as a Westminster College wrestler did John Hogue lose during a dual match. The team captain and team MVP in 1970 and 1971 compiled a career record of 24-2-1 - mostly in the 145-pound weight class - from 1967-1971 for head coaches Ralph Bouch and Gene Nicholson.
As a junior in 1970, Hogue advanced to the third round of the NCAA Collegiate Division Championships before losing to Wilkes' John Verzema in overtime.
The next year as a senior, Hogue's career undefeated record in dual matches was threatened when he moved up a weight class in the team's final match of the year against an opponent that did not have a wrestler in his weight class. Hogue won that match as his team finished with a 5-3 for the record, the most wins during his four years on the team. Hogue later advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Championships.
A native of Oil City, Pa., and an Oil City High School graduate, Hogue earned his degree from Westminster in psychology in 1971. He currently resides in Bethel Park, Pa., where he is a professional fundraising marketer. He and his wife Loretta have three grown children and six grandchildren.
