Titan Sports Hall of Fame
Joe Stewart was a three-year letterman and a team co-captain as a senior for the Titan track & field team. He was a member of the West Penn Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WPIAC) championship team in 1959. Stewart was also a member of the school record-breaking 1-mile relay team in 1959 and won the conference 800-yard run in his freshman year. He also set the school-record in the 440-yard run (49.5) in 1962, a record that stood for 50 years. His grandfather, Linus E. Stewart, class of 1905, previously held the 440 record before it was broken by Marlow Tolbert in 1952. Stewart held the starting blocks for Adam Carswell '13 when Carswell set a new school record in 2012. Stewart was undefeated in the 440-yard run during his junior and senior seasons. Additionally, Stewart was the two-time WPIAC 440 champion (1962, 1963). He was also the team captain for the cross country team in 1963.
