Men's Soccer: Titans Open Season with a Heart-Breaking 2-1 Loss to Mount Union

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's soccer team opened the 2007 with a heart-breaking 2-1 loss against visiting Mount Union on Friday in the Westminster Soccer Invitational. The Titans surrendered two unanswered goals including Mount Union's game-winner with five seconds remaining in double overtime.

The Purple Raiders (0-1) found the back of the net when Tod Booth buried a cross from Steve Gillespie after the teams played 19:55 of a scoreless overtime.

Westminster (1-0) broke a scoreless tie in the 65th minute of regulation when senior Garrett Horvath (Southlake, Texas/Carroll Southlake) scored on a cross from sophomore Ian Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic).

Mount Union knotted the game at 1-1 with Josh Donnelly's unassisted goal at the 71:20 mark.

The Titans out-shot the Purple Raiders, 15-12, led by senior Andrew Saporito (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) with six shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Mike Codita (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) made 13 saves in his college debut.

The Titans continue their weekend tournament Saturday when they host Point Park a 2 p.m. Point Park defeated Penn State-Beaver, 8-1, in the first game Friday at Westminster.
