Patton, Beard post top qualifying times on Day 1 of PAC Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--Westminster College senior Jacob Patton (Harrisville, Pa. | Moniteau) and graduate student Ryan Beard (Murrysville, Pa. | Franklin Regional) recorded the top qualifying times in the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash on the opening day of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday.

The PAC Championships are being held at the Track & Field Complex at Mylan Park, the home of the West Virginia University track and field and cross country programs.

After four scored events Westminster sits in sixth place with nine points. Grove City College leads the team championship race with 56 points.

Patton posted a time of 14.79 seconds in the preliminaries of the 110 hurdles to qualify for Friday's final. Junior Anthony Kamenski (Chicora, Pa. | Karns City) will also compete in the 110 hurdles final after qualifying third with a time of 15.55.

Beard ran a time of 10.84 in the 100 preliminaries to headline Friday's final.

Patton also finished fifth in the pole vault after clearing 3.56 meters (11-08) and fifth in the triple jump with a top jump of 12.69 meters (41-07.75).

Freshman Jalen Ritzert (Greenville, Pa. | Greenville) finished eighth in the javelin with a top throw of 47.74 meters (156-07).

Thirty event finals are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Friday. Westminster earned its first PAC title since 2016 last season.
