NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Westminster College men's swimming & diving team split its initial pair of meets to start the 2022-23 season.
Following a 194-104 season-opening setback in Erie to Penn State-Behrend, the Titans triumphed at home over Washington & Jefferson College, 184-61, in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
Westminster winners against W&J included graduate student Patrick Holton (Livonia, Mich./Livonia High), who swept the 1- and 3-meter dives with respective totals of 287.10 and 271.73; sophomore Samuel Duda (Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley High), who swept the 100- (57.32) and 200-yard (2:14.60) backstroke events and also triumphed in the 400-yard IM (4:45.65); first-year Ron Whitehouse (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville High), who copped both the 100- (1:01.36) and 200-yard (2:20.00) butterfly events; sophomore Cory Webster (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area High), 200-yard 'free (1:55.71); junior Paul Kallaur (Bethel Park, Pa./Homeschooled), 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.25); graduate student Kevin MacMurdo (Pittsburgh/Carlynton High), 50-yard 'free (23.58), and sophomore Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch High), 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.30).
Another Titans' triumph was recorded by the 200-yard medley relay foursome – Whitehouse, Kallaur, Duda, and sophomore Dawson Yocum (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound High – who turned in a collective 1:46.11 clocking.
In the setback to PSU-Behrend, Holton swept the 1- (267.80) and 3-meter (261.60) diving events, while Yocum won the 1000-yard 'free (11:16.74).
Friday, Nov. 11, the Titans travel to Pittsburgh to take on Chatham University beginning at 6 p.m.
