Westminster fifth after opening day of Oberlin Early Invite

Probst ties for eighth in 50 free

OBERLIN, Ohio--The Westminster men's swimming and diving team opened its 2026-27 season at Oberlin's Early Invitational Friday evening. The two-day event is being held inside the Carr Pool. 

Five events were contested during the single session Friday. Westminster is fifth in the eight-team field with 79 points. Case Western Reserve leads the team scoring with 459.50 points. 

The 200 freestyle 'A' relay was seventh with a time of 1:28.80. Members of the 'A' relay were freshman Landyn Rankin (Woodland, Pa., Clearfield), junior Jack Katigbak (North Canton, Ohio, Lake Center Christian) and freshmen David Atamian (Fontana, Calif., Etiwanda) and Gunnar Probst (Latrobe, Pa., Mount Pleasant). 

The 400 medley 'A' relay finished in ninth place with a time of 3:40.11. The 'A' relay included Katigbak, Rankin, Probst and Atamian. 

Probst tied for eighth place in the 50 freestyle (21.97) while Katigbak was was 14th (22.33). Ranklin was 15th in the 500 freestyle (5:01.10).

Up next:
On Saturday, seven events will be contested during the 10 a.m. session, with diving scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. The evening session will begin at 4:30 p.m. with six additional events contested.
