LATROBE, Pa. – The Westminster swimming and diving teams split its competition against Saint Vincent on Saturday in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. The Titan men (3-2, 3-0 PAC) won, 215-72, while the Titan women (3-2, 2-1 PAC) lost, 169-111.
For the women, senior
Gayner Rossi (Trenton, MI / Trenton) won the one-meter dive with a score of 175.35. Senior
Anna Grimenstein (Bridgeville, PA / Homeschooled) earned first-place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:21.28 and finished runner-up in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM, clocking in at 1:04.23 and 2:24.68. Senior
Megan Routch (Imperial, PA / West Allegheny) finished in second-place in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:33.95. The team of Grimenstein, sophomore
Olivia Herman (Hamburg, NY / Hamburg), junior
Baylee Horvath (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional), and first-year
Christina Loewe (Austin, TX / Veritas Academy) finished runner-up in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:57.76.
"I'm proud of the way the women raced today," said Head Coach
Pat Smith. "Before the meet, I asked them to just focus on competing and I think all through the lineup today we did that."
For the men, senior
Patrick Holton (Livonia, MI / Winston Churchill) finished in first-place in the one-meter dive with a score of 287.18. Seniors
Jacob Musselman (Denver, PA / Cocalico) and
Kevin MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, PA / Carlynton) teamed with sophomore
Paul Kallaur (Bethel Park, PA / Home Schooled) and first-year
Connor Fritz (Canfield, OH / Canfield) to win the 200 medley relay at 1:39.46. First-year
Samuel Duda (Tulsa, OK / Bishop Kelley) came in first in the 100 backstroke with a time 57.33. Fritz earned first-place in the 50 freestyle at 22.85. Musselman tallied a victory in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 48.95. Duda registered another win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.75.
"The men finished off a great week of practice with some great performances today," Smith said. "Our goal coming into the meet was to focus on improving one area of their races and we certainly achieved that today."
The Titans are back in action Thursday, January 27 as take on Grove City on the road in a PAC competition. Start time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
