Piraino earns runner-up finish on 1-meter board

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster graduate student Gino Piraino (Export, Pa., Franklin Regional) registered a runner-up finish on the 1-meter board at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming and Diving Championships Friday night. 

Through 14 events, Westminster sits in fifth place with 151 points. Host Grove City leads the seven-team championship field with 536. Washington & Jefferson is second with 425. 

Piraino scored 337.83 points in the 11-dive competition. 

Sophomore Jack Katigbak (North Canton, Ohio, Lake Center Christian) scored a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 52.66. Freshman Ethan Bishop (Meadow, Utah, Millard) was sixth in championship final of the 400 IM (4:30.21). 

Junior Hayne Webster (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) was 13th in the 100 butterfly (57.92) and freshman Joseph Galbraith (Waterford, Pa., Fort Le Boeuf) was 13th in 200 freestyle (1:51.28)

Westminster's 200 freestyle relay finished seventh (1:30.42). Relay members were Webster, Bishop, Galbraith and Katigbak. 

Up next:
The championships' last six events will be decided during Saturday evening's finals, which are scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. Preliminaries will get underway at 10 a.m.
