NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Chatham on Friday evening.
The Westminster women (3-1) won by a score of 194-98. The Titan men (3-1) won by a score of 45-9.
The men's team picked up 16 victories on the day. Highlighting the day with multiple victories were Titan seniors
Matt Kwalick (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley),
Aaron Dunlany (Boardman, OH / Boardman) and
Thomas Somora (Grove City, PA / Grove City), juniors
Roody D'Agaro (Bridgeville, PA / Chartiers Valley),
Blaine Sorrick (Mantua, OH / Crestwood) and
Connor May (Highlands Ranch, CO / Glacier Park) and freshman
Mark Lanterman (Youngstown, OH / Poland Seminary). Kwalick won the 50 freestyle (21.97), the 100 backstroke (57.06) and was part of the winning 800 freestyle relay (7:38.37) and 200 medley relay (1:44.20) teams. Dunlany won the 1000 freestyle (10:39.54), the 50 backstroke (26.67) and the 100 breastroke (1:02.32). Somora claimed victory in the 50-breaststroke (29.50) and the 100 IM (59.43). D'Agaro was part of the winning 200 medley relay team, won the 100 butterfly (57.93) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:16.72). Sorrick won the 50 butterfly (25.99), and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team and the 800 freestyle team. Lanterman snatched a victory in the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay.
May entered the Westminster Swimming and Diving records books when he set a new Team and Pool record in the 3-meter dive with a score of 393.60. May also won the 1 meter dive with a score of 342.55.
The women's team was paced by 11 victories on the day. The team of senior
Abigail Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch), sophomore
Marissa Bowers (Cuyahoga Falls, OH / Cuyahoga Falls) and
Anna Grimenstein (Bridgeville, PA / Homeschooled) and first-year
Baylee Horvath (Murrysville, PA / Franklin Regional) teamed together to win the 200 medley relay (1:57.74). Jones also won the 50 breaststroke (33.45) and the 100 freestyle (57.94), while Grimenstein won the 100 butterfly (1:04.77). Jones and Grimenstein were also part of the winning 800 freestyle relay (8:33.97) team with senior
Caitlyn Peace (Darlington, PA / Blackhawk) and sophomore
Megan Routch (Imperial, PA / West Allegheny). Routch also won the 200 freestyle (2:05.22). Senior
Gabie Johnson (Dover-Foxcroft, ME / Foxcroft Academy) got in the win-column with a victory in the 50 backstroke (30.14). Senior
Kaitlyn Fast (Wooster, OH / Wooster) picked up a victory in the 1 meter dive (212.10), while junior
Zoe Cable (Brookville, PA / Brookville Area) won the 3 meter dive (252.30). Senior
Maggie Manolis (Jeannette, PA / Jeannette) snatched a victory in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.09), while sophomore
Carinna Lapson (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) won the 50 butterfly (30.98).
Westminster will next travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. on Friday November 22 to take part in the two-day Carnegie Mellon Diving Invite starting at 6 p.m
