Duda wins 1650 title

Katigbak named PAC's Newcomer of the Year

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster College senior Sam Duda (Tulsa, Okla., Bishop Kelley) swam to a first-place finish in the 1650 while freshman Jack Katigbak (North Canton, Ohio, Lake Center Christian) captured Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Year honors on the fourth and final day of the PAC Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday night. 

Grove City College won eight-team, 20-event championship 1,087 points. It was the Wolverines' seventh-straight conference title. Washington & Jefferson College was second with 635 points. Saint Vincent College finished in third place with 589 points while Westminster was fourth with 468 points. 

Duda touched first in 16 minutes, 48.12 seconds to win the 1650. He was the No. 3 seed entering Saturday's final after a fourth-place finish in the event a year ago. On Thursday night he scored his third-straight title in the 500.

Katigbak was the runner-up in the 200 backstroke Saturday with a time of 1:56.29. He also finished second in the 100 backstroke on Friday and 11th in the 50 freestyle on Thursday. 

Sophomore Colton Super (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) was the runner-up on the 3-meter board, netting 343.30 points during the 11-dive event. Senior Mason Peck (Cary, N.C., Panther Creek) finished in fifth place in the 1650 with a time of 17:42.91 and senior Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) was sixth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:17.69.

Senior Cory Webster (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) finished ninth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.70. Senior Patrick Benedict (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper St. Clair) was 11th in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.77) and senior Steel Boyer (Mohrsville, Pa., Schuylkill Valley) finished 11th in the 200 butterfly (2:15.32). Freshman Avery Bumbach (Ocala, Fla., Forest) was 12th in the 100 freestyle (48.92) and sophomore Hayne Webster (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) was 13th in the 13th in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.22). Senior Cory Webster (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) was 14th in the 200 backstroke (2:12.68) and senior Jack Mickle (Presto, Pa., Bishop Canevin) was 16th in the 100 freestyle (52.76). 

Westminster's 400 freestyle "A" relay posted a time of 3:19.29, finishing in fifth place. Relay members incldued Katigbak, C. Webster, Bumbach and Duda. The "B" relay, made up of Boyer, Benedict, Peck and Mickle, was 12th (3:33.97).
