NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept The University of Mount Union in their final dual meet of the season on Senior Day.
Today's meet also marked the final for Head Swimming & Diving Coach
Rob Klamut after over 30 years at the helm. After the season, Klamut will work full-time as the Major Gifts Officer in Westminster's Institutional Advancement department.
The Titan men's team (9-2) won 174-109, while the Titan women's team (6-5) won 169.5-127.5. Both Mount Union teams dropped to 7-3 overall.
Westminster won a total of 21 events (12 for the men's team and nine for the women's), not including two events in which Westminster used exhibition swimmers.
The men's 400 medley relay team broke a 14-year-old pool record as it finished first with a time of 3:29.29. The quartet consisted of senior
Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle), senior
Matt Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford), sophomore
Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin), and sophomore
Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park).
Stahara also accounted for a team-high three individual wins as he won the 200 freestyle (1:45.38), the 100 freestyle (48.16), and the 500 freestyle (4:56.28).
Kolesar and Baurle added two individual wins each. Kolesar touched first in the 200 butterfly (1:59.62) and the 100 butterfly (52.84), while Baurle won the 100 breaststroke (58.34) and the 200 breaststroke (2:09.73).
Also earning individual wins for the Titan men's team were Karper (100 backstroke/53.51), freshman
Griffin Nincke (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) (1,000 freestyle/10:12.83), freshman
Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield) (50 freestyle/22.11), and freshman
David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) (200 backstroke/1:58.07).
Sophomore
Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park ) won a team-best three individual events for the women's team, and was part of a winning relay team. Douds touched first in the 200 butterfly (2:15.02), the 100 freestyle (56.23), and the 100 butterfly (1:01.37). She was also the third leg in the 400 medley relay team that won with a time of 4:10.10. Completing the quartet were senior
Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock), junior
Sam Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional), and junior
Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston).
Tillie additionally won the 200 freestyle (2:01.32) and the 400 IM (4:55.22).
Tower also won the 100 breaststroke (1:09.69) and was the third leg of the winning 400 freestyle relay. Completing the team were first-year
Meghan Long (Fairport, NY / Fairport), junior
Sarah Pace (Cranberry Township, PA / Oakland Catholic), and senior
Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock). Sophomore
Bridget Herlihy (McKean, PA / General McLane) picked up a win in the 1-meter dive with 164.25 points.
Westminster will next compete at the 2015-16 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships, starting on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
