COMPLETE RESULTSNEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams split with Grove City College in a home Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet Thursday night.
The Titan men's team broke three pool records and remained perfect in the PAC with a 4-0 conference record (8-2 overall) after winning 180-109. The Titan women's team (5-5, 3-1 PAC) lost 154-146.
The Grove City men's team dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in the PAC, while the Grove City women's team improved to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Titans won 21 events overall (14 for the men's team and seven for the women's team), not including two events in which Westminster used exhibition swimmers.
Senior
Matt Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) broke two pool records in individual events and was part of a relay that recorded a new pool mark. Baurle finished first in the 100 breaststroke breaking his own pool-record with a time of 58.17. Baurle also broke a 10-year old pool record in the 200 breaststroke as he touched first at 2:07.23. Additionally, Baurle was the second leg of the 200 medley relay team that placed first with a pool-record time of 1:35.32. Completing the quartet were senior
Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle), sophomore
Brad Kolesar (West Mifflin, PA / West Mifflin), and freshman
Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield).
Karper also won the 100 backstroke (53.55), while Kolesar touched first in the 200 butterfly (1:59.16) and 100 butterfly (52.64). Spencer added a win in the 50 freestyle (21.84).
Sophomore
Mitch Stahara (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) accounted for three wins: the 200 freestyle (1:46.41), the 100 freestyle (47.81), and the 500 freestyle (4:56.88). Freshman
David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) won the 1,000 freestyle (10:19.21) and the 200 backstroke (1:58.59).
Sophomore
Carlos Barrett (Laurel, MD / Hammond) swept the diving events as he won the 1-meter (159.30 pts.) and the 3-meter (176.25 pts.).
Sophomore
Megan Douds (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) accounted for three individual wins and was part of a winning relay. She won the 200 butterfly (2:10.99), the 100 freestyle (55.10), and the 100 butterfly (1:00.23). Douds was also the third leg of the winning 200 medley relay that clocked in at 1:51.88. Senior
Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock ), junior
Sam Tower (Export, PA / Franklin Regional), and junior
Anne Tillie (Fallston, MD / Fallston) completed the quartet.
Reott also won the 100 backstroke (1:02.55) and the 200 backstroke (2:18.51), while Tillie placed first in the 200 IM (2:17.15).
Westminster will next host The University of Mount Union on Saturday at 1 p.m. for its Senior Day.
