Women's Basketball: Titans Fall in Home Opener to Hiram

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.- The Westminster College women's basketball team fell to the Hiram College Terriers, 68-55, in the team's home opener Tuesday.

The Titans started off strong, outscoring Hiram 11-9 with 10:51 reaming in the first period. The Terriers battled back to take a three-point lead over Westminster. The Titans responded when sophomore Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) scored from beyond the three-point line to knot the game at 14 with 10 minutes left in the first half. Hiram was able to take back the lead however, outscoring Westminster 11-8 in the remainder of the period to lead 25-22 at halftime.

Durbin scored another three to start the second half, as the Titans tied the game 25. Hiram, however, was 50% from the field in the second half, outscoring the Titans 43-33 en route to their non-conference triumph.

For the game, Hiram out-shot Westminster 39.3% (24-61) to 36.8% (21-57) and held a 51-30 rebound advantage.

Durbin paced the Titans with 16 points, followed by first-year Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) with 10. On the boards, senior Allison Borts (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) led Westminster, tallying five rebounds on the night.

Titan first-year Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) added nine points, while Borts and Marsh scored six points apiece. Durbin and first-year Kaitlyn Krug (Loretto, PA / Penn. Cambria) each had four rebounds.

The Titans start conference play next week, taking on Chatham on Wednesday, Dec. 6 for a 7 p.m. start.
