Women's Basketball: Ackerman Scores 26 in Titans' Loss at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team suffered a 91-64 loss at Saint Vincent Saturday night.

The Titans' record drops to 11-6 while the Bearcats, a provisional Presidents' Athletic Conference member whose games no count in the standings, improve to 5-12 on the season.

Westminster has now lost its last two games by 27 points, but the loss at Saint Vincent was improbable because the Titans' biggest victory of the season was a 32-point, 77-45 win over the Bearcats at home on Dec. 1.

Senior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) led Westminster with 26 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Ackerman moved into fourth place on the team's career scoring list with 1,202 points, surpassing Colleen Dion's mark of 1,185 from 1992-96 during the game.

Junior guard Gina Brunetti (Canfield, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) bucketed 11 points and grabbed six rebounds, while freshman Kaitlin McCarthy (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville) dished out a game-high six assists to go with three points.

Janelle Reed led Saint Vincent with 31 points, followed by Laura Klimchock with 17 and Ashley Campbell with 15.

Westminster committed 26 turnovers and shot 33.9 percent (21-62) from the floor, while the Bearcats shot 54.7 percent (29-53) from the field.

Saint Vincent jumped to a commanding 14-point, 19-5 lead just over six minutes into the game. After the Titans whittled that lead down to six points (32-26) with 4:20 left in the first half, the Bearcats went on a 12-1 run and eventually led by 15 (44-29) at halftime.

The Bearcats continued to control the game in the second half by taking a 26-point lead with 16:33 remaining and maintained at least a 22-point lead for the rest of the game.

Westminster will host Grove City Wednesday at 6 p.m.
