Women's Basketball: Desiree Sterling Sets School Scoring Record in Titans' Win Over Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Senior guard Desiree Sterling became the Westminster College women's basketball team's all-time leading scorer Wednesday as the Titans won their eighth straight game by defeating Saint Vincent, 80-40, at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium in non-league action.

Sterling (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) scored 14 points giving her 1,288 career points, surpassing Robin Thayer's mark of 1,287 set from 1998-2002.

Junior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) led the Titans (16-4) with 19 points, while Saint Vincent (7-11) had just one player score in double figures with Laura Klimchock bucketing 13 points.

Senior guard Katie Roycroft (Pittsburgh, Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart), who had just two career points entering the game, scored a career-high nine points on 3-of-3 from 3-point range.

Westminster shot 50 percent (7-14) from 3-point range and 48.5 percent (33-68) overall. The Titan defense smothered Saint Vincent as the Bearcats shot just 25.5 percent (13-51) from the floor.

The Titans also held a gaping 49-27 rebound advantage, which included senior forward Talley Felger (Petersburg, Ohio/Springfield Local) grabbing a game-high nine boards.

Westminster led 35-17 at halftime after jumping to a 15-2 lead 10 minutes into the game.

The Titans look to avenge their only Presidents' Athletic Conference loss of the season at Thomas More on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. Westminster lost to the Saints, 58-57, at home on Jan. 6.
