NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team defeated Washington & Jefferson Saturday, 64-54, in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener held at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.
Junior guard/forward Emilee Ackerman (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) led the Titans with 16 points, while senior guard Desiree Sterling (Newton Falls, Ohio/Newton Falls) scored 14 and junior forward Terese Marszalek (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) bucketed 13 points.
The Titans (5-3, 1-0 PAC) were down by as many as eight points in the first half before trailing 33-32 at halftime. The Presidents (5-3, 0-1 PAC) went back up by seven points (39-32) with 17:41 remaining in the game before the Titans mounted a comeback that had them taking over the lead with 5:50 to go on a 3-pointer by Sterling.
Sterling's 3-pointer was part of an 11-0 run for the Titans that ended when Westminster took a nine-point, 54-45 lead.
Stephanie Smith and Kennan Killeen led the Presidents with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
