Rambo earns pair of major awards at PAC Championships

Vadas named PAC Newcomer of the Year

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--Westminster senior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) was honored as the Overall MVP and Field MVP at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday evening. 

The two-day, 20-event championship was once again held at the Track & Field Complex at Mylan Park. Geneva won the team title with 140.50 points. Grove City was second (123.50). Westminster was third with 114.50 points. 

Friday, Rambo registered a winning mark of 42.09 meters (138-01) in the discus and also finished as the runner-up in the shot put (12.62m, 41-05). Combined with a pair of personal best throws in two events Thursday--finishing as the runner-up in the hammer throw (44.17m, 144-11) and third in the javelin (36.48m, 119-08)--Rambo totaled 32 points. 

Freshman Meghan Vadas (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown Fitch) was recognized as the PAC's Newcomer of the Year. Friday, she finished as the runner-up in the discus with a best mark of 41.39 meters (135-09) and was eighth in the shot put (10.75m, 35-03.25). Vadas was fifth (3.10m, 10-02) in the pole vault Thursday. 

Junior Jenna Zendron (West Sunbury, Pa., Moniteau) finished as the runner-up in the 400 meters (58.44), was third in the 200 meters (26.11) and seventh in the 100 meters (13.58). She ran a personal-best time of 12.63 in Thursday's 100 preliminiaries. Senior Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:06.41. She also finished sixth in the final of the 100-meter hurdles (16.57). 

Sophomore Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) tied for fourth in the high jump (1.54m, 5-05). Junior Molly Gibson (Leetonia, Ohio, Leetonia) was sixth in the discus (35.74m, 117-03) and seventh in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 10.86 meters (35-07.75). Freshman Zoe Puhala (Brockway, Pa., Brockway) was sixth in the 800 meters (2:20.39). Freshman Aubrey Rock (Butler, Pa., Butler) finished eighth in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 4.98 meters (16-04.25).

Westminster's 4x100-meter meter relay opened day two with a fifth-place finish, posting a season-best time of 50.49. Relay members included Zendron, freshman Natalie Weiland (Mars, Pa., North Catholic), Essey and Puhala. The 4x400-meter relay was fifth (4:12.78). Members of the relay included Zendron, Essey, Weiland and Puhala.

Westminster is scheduled to compete at Baldwin-Wallace's Harrison Dillard Twilight meet next Thursday and Friday, May 7-8.
