Kovell claims PAC weekly award

TRAFFORD, Pa.--Westminster freshman Zach Kovell (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Outdoor Track and Field Newcomer of the Week Tuesday afternoon.

This is the second PAC weekly award for Kovell. He was named the league's newcomer of the week during the indoor season.

Kovell was second in both the 100 meters with a time of 10.99 seconds and 200 meters with a time of 21.71 at Saturday's Penn State Behrend Invitational. Both were personal bests. His time in the 200 ranks No. 4 on the PAC's performance list. Kovell also anchored Westminster's winning 4x100-meter relay at Behrend, which posted a time of 42.34. It is the No. 4 time in the PAC. At Slippery Rock's John Papa Invitational last Thursday, Kovell led off the second-place 4x400-meter relay that finished with a time of 3:20.84. It's the top time in the PAC and ranks sixth in the Mid-Atlantic region.
