Rambo, Treharne, Vadas win at home invitational

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Westminster seniors Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) and Missy Treharne (Burton, Ohio, Beaumont School), along freshman Meghan Vadas (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown Fitch), each won an event at the Westminster Invitational Saturday afternoon. 

The Westminster Invitational was held on Friday and Saturday. Slippery Rock hosted the hammer throw Friday while all events Saturday were in New Wilmington.

Rambo won the shot put with a top mark of 12.55 meters (41-02.25). She also finished third in javelin with a personal-best mark of 36.19 meters (118-09) and third in the discus (38.06m,124-10). Treharne won the pole vault, clearing a personal-best height of 4.01 meters (13-01.75). It's currently the No. 2 mark in Division III. Vadas won the discus with a top mark of 39.73 meters (130-04).

Sophomore Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) was the runner-up in the high jump (1.62m, 5-03.75) and sixth in the pole vault (3.41m, 11-02.25) while junior Jenna Zendron (West Sunbury, Pa., Moniteau) finished third in the 400 meters (58.95) and seventh in the 200 meters (25.92).

Freshman Zoe Puhala (Brockway, Pa., Brockway) finished fifth in the 800 meters with a school-record time of 2 minutes, 18.40 seconds. Senior Monica Curtis (Harborcreek, Pa., Harbor Creek) was sixth in the 3000-meter steeple chase (12:13.59) and junior Molly Gibson (Leetonia, Ohio, Leetonia) was sixth in the discus (34.50m, 113-02).

Senior Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) was seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (1:09.44) and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.08). Freshman Gabby Armlin (Middleburgh, N.Y., Middleburg Central) finished seventh in the 10000 (44:31.40) and freshman Aubrey Rock (Butler, Pa., Butler) was seventh in the pole vault (3.41m, 11-02.25).

Westminster concluded the meet with a third-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay (4:09.86). Members of the 'A' relay included Zendron, Puhala, freshman Natalie Weiland (Mars, Pa., North Catholic) and Essey.

Up next:
Westminster will participate in the John Papa Invitational, hosted by Slippery Rock, next Thursday.  Events are scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m.
