Relays rule at home invitational

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Wins by the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays highlighted Saturday's performances for the Westminster men's outdoor track and field program at its annual home invitational.

The Westminster Invitational was held on Friday and Saturday. Slippery Rock hosted the hammer throw Friday while all events Saturday were in New Wilmington.

Westminster's 4x100 'A" relay registered a first-place finish with a winning time of 42.88 seconds. The relay included freshmen Aaron Stebick (Butler, Pa., Butler), Zach Kovell (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell), Aaron Dickhart (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) and Robert Maderitz (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown Fitch). The 4x100 'B' relay finished fourth (43.67). Members of the relay were sophomore Brite Cannon (Parkland, Fla., Monarch), junior Jake Mull (Apollo, Pa., Apollo-Ridge), senior Ben White (Warren, Pa., Warren) and freshman Imari Watson (Chambersburg, Pa., Chambersburg). 

The 4x400 'A' relay finished first with a time of 3:23.93. The relay was made up of Kovell, Dickhart, junior Dalton Koehler (Chardon, Ohio, Fairport Harding) and Stebick. 

Sophomore Rylan Dye (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) won the high jump with a top mark of 2.01 meters (6-07). 

Four runners finished in the top 10 of the 400 meters: Kovell was second (49.07), Stebick was sixth (50.64) and Dickhart was ninth (51.97). Stebick also finished in sixth place in the 200 meters (22.48). Freshman Deonte Stallings (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown-Fitch) and Mull were third (15.16) and fifth (15.33), respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles. Mull also finished 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (58.98). 

Koehler and freshman Dillon Brunner (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper Saint Clair) were third (1:57.46) and 10th (2:01.32) in the 800 meters. Freshmen Nick Bender (New Castle, Pa., Neshannock) and Phil Silvis (Harmony, Pa., Seneca Valley) were fourth (35:18.34) and sixth (36:15.56) in the 10,000 meters. 

Juniors Jack Crider (Apollo, Pa., Kiski) and Kyle Crown (Lake Milton, Ohio, McDonald) finished fifth (40.36m, 132-05) and seventh (38.48m, 126-03) in the discus. Crown was sixth (14.10m, 46-03.25) and Crider was eighth (13.33m, 43-08.75) in the shot put. Friday, Crider finished ninth (40.28m, 132-02) in the hammer throw. 

Up next:
Westminster will participate in the John Papa Invitational, hosted by Slippery Rock, next Thursday.  Events are scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m.
