Vadas, Puhala earn PAC weekly honors

TRAFFORD, Pa.--Westminster freshmen Meghan Vadas (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown Fitch) and Zoe Puhala (Brockway, Pa., Brockway) were named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Tuesday afternoon.

Vadas was named the PAC's Field Athlete of the Week while Puhala was named the PAC's Newcomer of the week. It is Vadas' first weekly award. Puhala was named the PAC Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Week twice (Jan. 20, Feb. 10).

Vadas posted a pair of top-12 finishes at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge last Saturday. She registered a fifth-place finish in the discus with a personal-best mark of 41.50 meters (136-02). It's the fourth-best throw in program history. Vadas also finished 12th in the shot put with a top throw of 11.18 meters (36-08.25).

Puhala finished fourth in the 800 meters at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge Saturday with a personal-best time of 2:19.31. It ranks as the third-best time in program history.

Westminster will split its team Friday-Saturday, March 27-28 to compete at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational and the Tim Weaver Invitational, hosted by West Liberty.
