Westminster claims four event titles at PAC Indoor Championships

YOUNGSTOWN,Ohio--Behind four individual championship performances, Westminster powered its way to a third-place finish at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships Thursday at Youngstown State's Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).

Westminster finished with 87 points at the 11-team, 16-event championship. Geneva earned the team title with 113 points. Grove City finished as runner-up (94). 

Sophomore Rylan Dye (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) won his second-straight PAC indoor high jump title, tying the PAC Championships record and personal best 2.06 meters (6-09). His mark is tied for No. 7 in Division III. 

Junior Jack Crider (Apollo, Pa., Kiski) won the weight throw with a top mark of 15.09 meters (49-06.25). He was runner-up in the event last season. Crider also finished fourth in the shot put (14.22m, 46-08). Sophomore Reed Yost (Wattsburg, Pa., Seneca) won the pole vault, clearing a PAC Championships record 4.75 meters (15-07.00). He was runner-up last year. Junior Jake Mull (Apollo, Pa., Apollo-Ridge) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.53 second after finishing second in the preliminaries (8.70). He finished third in the event a year ago. 

Freshman Zach Kovell (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) was runner-up in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 48.78 and sixth in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 22.41.

Junior Dalton Koehler (Chardon, Ohio, Fairport Harding) was third in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:56.66 and classmate Kyle Crown (Lake Milton, Ohio, McDonald) finished third in the shot put (14.59m, 47-10.50). Freshman Daniel Mukaabya (Bridgeville, Pa., Union) finished sixth in the shot put (12.59m, 41-03.75).

Westminster's 4x400 relay was third, finishing with a time of 3:24.37. The relay included Kovell, junior Dennis Jones (West Middlesex, Pa., West Middlesex), Mull and freshman Aaron Stebick (Butler, Pa., Butler). The Distance Medley Relay (DMR) was fifth (11:18.59). Members of the relay were senior Justin Redilla (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley), freshman Aaron Dickhart (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell), freshman Dillon Brunner (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper Saint Clair) and Koehler.

Senior Ben White (Warren, Pa., Warren) was recognized as a member of the PAC's Sportsmanship Team at the conclusion of the event Thursday. The PAC Sportsmanship Teams were established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior and are an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among all PAC teams.

Westminster is scheduled to compete at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships Friday-Saturday, March 6-7. The two-day event will be held at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City.
