Kovell 15th in 400 at All-Atlantic Championships

NEW YORK--Westminster freshman Zach Kovell (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) competed in the 400 meters Saturday at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships. The two-day event is being held at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.

Kovell finished 15th in the 39-runner field with a time of 49.24 seconds, the highest finish by a first-year competitor in the event.

Up next:
Qualifying student-athletes will compete at the Division III Championships, scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 13-14 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala. The event is being hosted by the city of Birmingham and Birmingham-Southern College. The final descending-order list will be posted by 9 a.m. on Sunday. For each men's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition.

Also, Westminster's outdoor season will get underway March 13-14 at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge. Hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach, the two-day event is being held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
