Crown eclipses school record in shot put

WINCHESTER, Va.--Four members of Westminster College's men's indoor track and field program competed at the South Regional Final Qualifier and Multi, hosted by Shenandoah University inside the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics Center, on Saturday. 

Looking to make a final push towards securing a spot at this year's NCAA Division III Indoor Championships were graduate student Anthony Kamenski (Chicora, Pa., Karns City), sophomore Kyle Crown (Lake Milton, Ohio, McDonald) and freshmen Rylan Dye (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) and Aaron Hankerson (Reidsville, Ga., Robert Toombs Christian Academy). 

Kamenski was second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69 seconds. He won the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.55 at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships on Feb. 27. 

Dye finished third in the high jump, clearing 1.84 meters (6-00.25). On Feb. 27 he won the high jump at the PAC Championships after clearing 1.99 meters (6-06.25). It was just the second competitive jump of his collegiate career. Dye is one of 10 individuals tied at 42nd on Division III's qualifying list.

Hankerson was third in the 60 meters with a finals time of 6.93. He was named the PAC Newcomer of the Year at the conclusion of the indoor championships after winning the 60 with a personal-best time of 6.88 and finishing seventh in the 200 meters (22.81). Hankerson is one of nine tied at 49th on Division III's qualifying list.

Crown was fourth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 15.22 meters (49-11). His best throw set a new indoor program record, topping Adam Hadbavny's previous school record throw of 14.81 meters (48-07.25). 

Up Next:
The Division III Championships are scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 14-15 at the Golisano Training Center in Rochester, N.Y. The final list of meet participants will be available on Sunday. For each men's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition.
