Hankerson named PAC Newcomer of the Year

Westminster men finish fourth

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--Westminster College freshman Aaron Hankerson (Reidsville, Ga., Robert Toombs Christian Academy) was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Year Thursday night at the conclusion of the PAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were once again held at Youngstown State University's Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).  

Westminster finished fourth with 81 points at the 16-event championship. Grove City College won the team title at the 11-team championship with 137 points, followed by Allegheny College in second (112) and Washington & Jefferson College in third (95.50).

Hankerson won the 60 meters with a personal-best time of 6.88 seconds after qualifying third (6.99) in the preliminaries. He also finished seventh in the 200 (22.81). Graduate student Anthony Kamenski (Chicora, Pa., Karns City) won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55 seconds while freshman Rylan Dye (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) won the high jump after clearing 1.99 meters (6-06.25).

Freshman Reed Yost (Wattsburg, Pa., Seneca) was runner-up in the pole vault after clearing 4.40 meters (14-05.25). Sophomore Jack Crider (Apollo, Pa., Kiski) was second in the weight throw with a top throw of 14.41 meters (47-03.50) and was fourth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 13.82 meters (45-04.25). Sophomore Kyle Crown (Lake Milton, Ohio, McDonald) was second in the shot put with a season-best throw of 14.79 meters (48-06.25).

Sophomore Jake Mull (Apollo, Pa., Apollo-Ridge) was third in the 60 hurdles (8.68), seventh in the long jump (6.09m, 19-11.75) and eighth in the 60 (7.24). Senior Jacob Forrest (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) finished seventh in the shot put (12.56m, 41-02.50) while sophomore Isaiah Dale (Claysville, Pa., McGuffey) was seventh in the 60 hurdles (9.09). Sophomore Dennis Jones (West Middlesex, Pa., West Middlesex) registered an eighth-place finish in the 800 (2:01.09) and junior Jalen Ritzert (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) was eighth in the pole vault (3.50m, 11-05.75).

In the 4x400-meter relay, Westminster finished fourth with a season-best time of 3:31.14. Members of the relay included Mull, Kamenski, Jones and Hankerson. 

Junior Bryce Carroll (Sharon, Pa., Sharon) was named to the PAC Sportsmanship Team, established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior.

Select qualifiers will compete at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships Friday-Saturday, March 7-8 at Ithaca College.
