Katigbak runner-up in 100 backstroke at PAC's

GROVE CITY, Pa.--Westminster College freshman Jack Katigbak (North Canton, Ohio, Lake Center Christian) registered a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke Friday during the evening session of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming and Diving Championships. 

After 14 events, Westminster sits in fourth place with 315 points. Grove City College leads the seven-team field with 736 points. Washington & Jefferson College is second (426) and Saint Vincent College is third (390).

Katigbak posted a second place and personal-best time of 52.48 seconds. He swam the third-fastest time (53.04) in Friday's preliminaries.

In the 400 IM, senior Sam Duda (Tulsa, Okla., Bishop Kelley) finished fourth with a season-best time of 4:16.82 while seniors Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) and Mason Peck (Cary, N.C., Panther Creek) and were eighth and ninth, respectively. Phillips was eighth with a time of 4:37.16 and Peck, who shaved almost four seconds off his preliminaries time, won the "B" final with a ninth-place time of 4:34.07. 

Freshman Avery Bumbach (Ocala, Fla., Forest) was eight in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.32 while senior Jack Mickle (Presto, Pa., Bishop Canevin) finished 15th (1:55.87). Senior Patrick Benedict (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper St. Clair) finished 10th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:00.05 while sophomore Hayne Webster (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) was 12th in the 100 butterfly (56.14). Senior Steel Boyer (Mohrsville, Pa., Schuylkill Valley) finished 14th in both the 100 butterfly (58.87) and 100 backstroke (1:05.99). 

The evening session ended with Westminster's 200 freestyle "A" relay finishing fifth with at time of 1:32.20. Relay members included Bumbach, Phillips, Webster and Katigbak. The 200 freestyle "B" relay, made up Boyer, Benedict, Peck and Mickle, was 11th (1:37.85). 

Up Next:
The championships' last seven events are scheduled to be decided during Saturday evening's finals. Senior recognition is set to get underway at 5 p.m., with the 1650 to begin at approximately 5:15 p.m.
