Davis smashes indoor high jump record at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--Graduate student Breannda Davis (Streetsboro, Ohio, Streetsboro) shattered the existing Westminster College women's indoor record in the high jump Friday at the Youngstown State University Last Chance, held inside the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS). 

Davis cleared a school-record 1.71 meters (5-07.25), winning the nine-person high jump competition and eclipsing Jess Cooper's previous indoor-best mark of 1.67 meters (5-05.75), set Feb. 22, 2008. She is currently tied with three others for the No. 3 jump in Division III this season. Davis also holds the College's outdoor record after clearing 1.69 meters (5-06.50) at the Westminster Invitational last April.

Davis also scored sixth-place finishes in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.60 seconds and the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 26.88. 

Freshman Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) finished third in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters (4-09), and eight in the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 3.62 meters (11-10.50). It is the No. 21 jump among Division III pole vaulters this season. She cleared her first attempt at the height. Senior Kaya Skinner (Oil City, Pa., Oil City) recorded a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a season-best effort of 9.86 meters (32-04.25) while sophomore Jenna Zendron (West Sunbury, Pa., Moniteau) finished fifth in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 1:00.72 and was 10th in the 200 with a season-best time of 27.08.

Sophomore Molly Gibson (Leetonia, Ohio, Leetonia) was eighth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 10.33 meters (33-10.75). Sophomore Milayna Leasure (Home, Pa., Marion Center) finished 10th in the shot put with a season-best throw of 10.25 meters (33-07.50) while freshman Lauren Burks (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) was 11th (9.95m, 32-07.75) and junior Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) finished 12th (9.90, 32-05.75). Freshman Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) registered an 11th-place finish in the weight throw (12.53m, 41-01.50).

Sophomore Lily Atwood (Kittanning, Pa., Armstrong) placed 11th in the 400 with a personal-best time of 1:05.17 while junior Monica Curtis (Harborcreek, Pa., Harbor Creek) finished 12th in the mile with a time of personal-best time of 5:42.47.

The 4x400-meter relay, made up of junior Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell), Atwood, freshman Josie Cervone (Pittsburgh, Pa., Avonworth) and Zendron, finished third with a season-best time of 4:21.80. 

Up Next: 
Graduate student Maddie Conley (New Castle, Pa., New Castle) is scheduled to compete in the pole vault Saturday at the SPIRE Indoor Games. The men's and women's pole vault are both set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
