Davis wins pentathlon at Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va.--Five members of Westminster College's women's indoor track and field program were in action Saturday, all looking to make a final push towards securing a spot at this year's NCAA Division III Indoor Championships.

Graduate student Breannda Davis (Streetsboro, Ohio, Streetsboro), junior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) and freshman Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) participated in the South Regional Final Qualifier and Multi, hosted by Shenandoah University inside the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics Center, while graduate student Madison Conley (New Castle, Pa., New Castle) and freshman Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) competed in the pole vault at Ohio Northern University's Polar Bear Final Qualifier, held inside the ONU Sports Center. 

Davis won the pentathlon at Shenandoah with a personal-best score of 3,369 points. She won the high jump, clearing 1.67 meters (5-05.75), and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.46 seconds, second in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 9.98 meters (32-09), second in the long jump (5.11m, 16-09.25) and second in the 800 meters (2:36.15). Davis' 3,3369 points put her, currently, at No. 20 on Division III's qualifying list. On Feb. 14 at Youngstown State University's Last Chance, held inside the Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS), she cleared a school-record 1.71 meters (5-07.25) in the high jump, which is currently tied for the fifth-best jump in Division III this season. 

Rambo was fourth in the shot put with a top throw of 11.52 meters (37-09.50). She was eighth in the weight throw with a personal-best effort of 13.12 meters (43-00.50). Gecina was sixth in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 13.85 meters (45-05.25).

Conley finished second in the pole vault at ONU, clearing 3.68 meters (12-00.75). Iwig finished fourth after clearing 3.48 meters (11-05). Conley is currently tied for 13th on Division III's qualifying list after winning the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) title by clearing a season-best 3.83 meters (12-06.75) on Feb. 27. Iwig's is 25th on Division III's qualifying list, clearing a personal-best 3.72 meters (12-02.50) at the University of Mount Union Raider Tune-Up on Feb. 21. 

Up Next:
The Division III Championships are scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 14-15 at the Golisano Training Center in Rochester, N.Y. The final list of meet participants will be available on Sunday. For each women's individual event contested, including the pentathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition.
