Women second at PAC Indoor Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--The Westminster College women's indoor track and field program posted a runner-up finish at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships Thursday at Youngstown State University's Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS). 

Westminster, last year's indoor champion, totaled 120 points at 16-event championship. Grove City College won the 11-team championship with 148 points. Allegheny College was third with 112 points. 

Graduate student Breannda Davis (Streetsboro, Ohio, Streetsboro) totaled 40 points in six completed events. She established a new PAC Championships record in the high jump, winning the event with a jump of 1.65 meters (5-05). Davis posted third-place finishes in the triple jump (10.71m, 35-01.75), the 60-meter hurdles (9.50) and the 200 meters (26.39) and finished fourth in the 60 meters (8.20) and long jump (5.13m, 16-10).

Senior Lexi Shiderly (New Castle, Pa., Mohawk) won the shot put with a season-best throw of 12.76 meters (41-10.50). She was third in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 14.34 meters (47-00.75). 

Graduate student Madison Conley (New Castle, Pa., New Castle) and junior Missy Treharne (Burton, Ohio, Beaumont School) finished 1-2 in the pole vault. Conley cleared a season-best 3.83 meters (12-06.75). It's currently the ninth-best effort in Division III. Treharne was runner-up after clearing 3.25 meters (10-08) on her first attempt. Freshman Alaina Gatto (Warren, Pa., Warren) was fourth after clearing 3.25 meters (10-08) on her first attempt. Treharne did not have a miss before clearing 3.25 meters. 

Sophomore Jenna Zendron (West Sunbury, Pa., Moniteau) was third in the 400 meters (59.45), seventh in the 200 (27.15) and eighth in the 60 (8.38). Junior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) finished third in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 12.37 meters (40-07), fourth in the 60 hurdles (9.76) and seventh in the weight throw (12.82m, 42-00.75). Freshman Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) was fourth in the high jump (1.53m, 5-00.25), freshman Brooke Gecina (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora) was fifth in the weight throw with a personal-best effort of 13.67 meters (44-10.25) and junior Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) was seventh in both the 60 hurdles (10.19) and the high jump (1.48m, 4-10.25). 

The 4x400-meter relay finished second with a season-best time of 4:11.30. Relay members included Zendron, Essey, sophomore Lily Atwood (Kittanning, Pa., Armstrong) and Davis. 

Junior Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) was named to the PAC's Sportsmanship Team, established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior.

Select qualifiers will compete at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships Friday-Saturday, March 7-8 at Ithaca College.
