Dye wins high jump at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--Sophomore Rylan Dye (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) won the high jump to headline the Westminster College men's indoor track and field team's efforts at the 14th Annual Youngstown State Icebreaker, presented by Southwoods Health, on Friday. 

The unscored, season-opening event was held inside the Watson & Tressel (WATTS) Center.

Dye entered the 18-competitor seeded high jump competition with the fourth-best seed mark. Friday, he cleared 2.03 meters (6-08.00), surpassing his previous all-time best and existing No. 1 mark on the indoor program's all-time performance list. His school-record jump of 1.99 meters (6-06.25) was set at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships last February. 

Sophomore Reed Yost (Wattsburg, Pa., Seneca) cleared 4.45 meters (14-07.25) to tie for 10th in the seeded pole vault competition. Juniors Dennis Jones (West Middlesex, Pa., West Middlesex) and Dalton Koehler (Chardon, Ohio, Fairport Harding) placed 14th and 17th, respectively, in the 800. Jones finished in 1:59.37 while Koehler's time was 2:01.01. Freshman Ta'Rel Richardson-Heasley (Grove City, Pa., Grove City) finished in 16th place in the triple jump (12.52m, 41-01) and 39th in the long jump (5.28m, 17-04).

Junior Jack Crider (Apollo, Pa., Kiski) finished 22nd in the weight throw (13.03m, 42-09.00) and 30th in the shot put (12.73m, 09.25). Freshman Dillon Brunner (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper Saint Clair) was 27th in the 800 (2:07.45) while freshman Phil Silvis (Harmony, Pa., Seneca Valley) was 36th in the mile (4:51.73).

Westminster concluded the meet with a 12th-place finish in the 4x400 relay (3:35). Members of the relay included freshmen Zach Kovell (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell), Brunner, Aaron Dickhart (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) and Aaron Stebick (Butler, Pa., Butler)

Up next:
Westminster returns to action on Friday, Jan. 16 at Akron's Seventh Annual Al Campbell Invitational. Field events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with track events getting underway at 4:30 p.m.
