WESTERVILLE, Ohio--Graduate student DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) scored a career-high 27 points Tuesday afternoon in Westminster's 70-61 road loss to Otterbein at the Smokey Ballenger Classic.

Harrell has scored 20 or more points three times this season. He finished 11-of-22 from the floor and made three of his six three-point field goal attempts. Harrell also had five rebounds and three assists. Freshman Nick Ryan (Warren, Ohio, John F. Kennedy) added 12 points and five boards. He has scored in double figures five times this year. Senior Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Julian Heckman paced Otterbein (10-2) with 19 points. Troy Scowden and Chase Garito added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Westminster (5-5) scored the game's first eight points and built a 12-point lead, 14-2, five minutes in. A Harrell three-pointer with 2:39 remaining in the half upped the lead to 15, 36-21. The Titans went into the break leading by 13, 38-25. Westminster shot 44.1 percent (15-34) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. Harrell scored 15 first half points while Ryan scored his dozen on 5-of-5 shooting.

Otterbein, trailing 49-41 with under 14 minutes remaining, strung together a 13-0 run over the next three-plus minutes to grab a five-point lead, 54-49, on a Carter Piatt-Brown layup. Weir's three-pointer with just over six minutes left cut the Cardinals' lead to four, 58-54, before Otterbein hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to secure the nine-point win.

Westminster shot 37.1 percent (23-62) from the field and went 7-of-27 (.259) from the three-point line Tuesday. Otterbein's bench was responsible for 27 of the Cardinals' 70 points and outscored Westminster's reserves 19-0 in the second half.
