Titans top North Division in PAC Preseason Coaches' Poll

TRAFFORD, Pa.--The Westminster College men's basketball team was picked to finish at the top of the North Division in this year's Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll. The results of this year's poll, which was voted on by the league's 12 head coaches, were released along with the PAC Players to Watch list Tuesday morning. 

In the North, Westminster was picked to finish first with 60 points and six first-place votes. Grove City was second with 58 points and four first-place votes while Allegheny was third with 43 points and the final pair of first-place votes. Geneva was fourth (33), Thiel was fifth (29) and Hiram was sixth (23). 

In the South, Washington & Jefferson was picked to finish first with 63 points and nine first-place votes. Saint Vincent was second with 55 points and one first-place vote while Chatham, last year's conference champion, was third with 46 points and the final pair of first-place votes. Franciscan was fourth (40), Waynesburg was fifth (26) and Bethany was sixth (16).

Westminster, led by first-year head coach David Richards, had three players named to the players to watch list: graduate student guard DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical), senior forward Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) and senior guard Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem). Harrell joined the program this fall after spending last season at Salem. Weir appeared in 25 games with 21 starts and averaged 16.6 points 5.4 rebounds per game. DePietro missed the 2024-25 season due to injury. 

The PAC Championship Tournament will also expand this year, as eight teams--the top four from each division--qualify for the conference playoffs. The tournament will get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 24 with the top two seeds from each division hosting quarterfinal games. Semifinal games will be played Thursday, Feb. 26 and the PAC title game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28. All PAC Championship Tournament matchups will be played at campus sites. This year's championship tournament winner will receive the league's automatic qualifying bid to the Division III Championship. Team selections for the Division III Championship are scheduled to be announced Monday, March 2, with first- and second-round matchups scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 6-7.  

This year's schedule gets underway on Tuesday, Nov. 11 against Juniata. Tipoff at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium is slated for 7 p.m.
