Katigbak wins twice in season opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Sophomore Jack Katigbak (North Canton, Ohio, Lake Center Christian) won two events for the Westminster College men's swimming and diving team Friday night. The Titans suffered a 153-81 loss to visiting Edinboro in their season opener. 

Westminster opened with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay, finishing with a time of 1 minute, 43.63 seconds. Members of the relay included Katigbak, sophomores Avery Bumbach (Ocala, Fla., Forest) and Ethan Schohn (Pittsburgh, Pa., Plum) and freshman Joseph Galbraith (Waterford, Pa., Fort Le Boeuf)

Katigbak registered first-place finishes in the 100 back (54.64) and the 200 back (2:04.22). He also finished second in the 50 free (22.83).

Bumbach finished second in the 200 breast (2:32.80) and in the 200 IM (2:08.09). He finished third in the 100 back (1:06.33). Freshman Ethan Bishop (Meadow, Utah, Millard) finished second in the 500 free (5:38.73) and third in the 1000 (11:33.12). Junior Hayne Webster (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) was second in the 200 free (2:02.99) and third in both the 200 breast (2:44.02) and 100 fly (1:04.47). Schohn finished second in the 100 fly (59:94). He finished third in the 200 fly (2:17.67) and in the 100 free (53.03). Galbraith was third in the 200 free (2:03.53). 

Graduate student Gino Piraino (Export, Pa., Franklin Regional) was the lone competitor in the 1-meter diving event, totaling 298.55 points.

The Titans closed out the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:39.39). The relay members were Webster, Bishop, Piraino and Galbraith. 

Up next:
Westminster will open its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) schedule next Saturday at Washington & Jefferson inside the Henry Memorial Natatorium. Events are scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
