Westminster women compete at Akron

AKRON, Ohio--Members of the Westminster College women's indoor track and field program competed at the sixth annual Al Campbell Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron, Friday evening inside the Still Athletics Field House.

Freshman Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) finished third in the pole vault after clearing 3.38 meters (11-01). She's the third Westminster women's pole vaulter to clear 11 feet this indoor season (Alaina Gatto, 3.40m [11-01.75]; Missy Treharne, 3.40m [11-01.75]). Fifth-year Madison Conley (New Castle, Pa., New Castle) was ninth (3.08m, 10-01.25). Iwig also tied for 10th in the high jump (1.50m, 4-11). 

Graduate student Breannda Davis (Streetsboro, Ohio, Streetsboro) was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.49 seconds. She posted a time of 9.48 in the preliminaries. Davis also tied for sixth place in the high jump (1.60m, 5-03) and was 11th in the long jump (4.95m, 16-03). 

Senior Lexi Shiderly (New Castle, Pa., Mohawk) finished 10th in the shot put with a top throw of 12.08 meters (39-07.75). She also finished 21st in the weight throw (12.26m, 40-02.75). Junior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) finished 12th in the shot put (12.02m, 39-05.25) and 28th in the weight throw with a personal-best mark of 11.22 meters (36-09.75). Junior Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) was 17th in the shot put (10.84m, 35-06.75) and 20th in the weight throw (12.45m, 40-10.25).  

Sophomore Jenna Zendron (West Sunbury, Pa., Moniteau) finished 16th in the 400 (1:02.52) and was 30th in the 200 (28.09) while junior Monica Curtis (Harborcreek, Pa., Harbor Creek) was 21st in the mile (5:53.44).

Westminster closed out the night with a 10th-place finish in the 4x400 relay (4:24.73). Members of the relay included junior Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell), Zendron, freshman Josie Cervone (Pittsburgh, Pa., Avonworth) and Davis.

Westminster is scheduled to compete at the SPIRE Midwest Open next Saturday, Jan. 25. Events are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
