Davis wins heptathlon at West Liberty

Rambo earns first-place finish in discus for second-straight week

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Westminster College senior Breannda Davis (Streetsboro, Ohio, Streetsboro) won the heptathlon at West Liberty University's Third Annual Tim Weaver Invitational while sophomore Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) earned a first-place finish in the discus at the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational Saturday. 

Davis led the 17-participant heptathlon field after totaling a school-record 4,426 points during the two-day, seven-event program. On Saturday, she placed third in the long jump (5.12m, 16-09.75), fourth in the 800 meters (2:34.47) and eighth in the javelin (24.18m, 79-04). Friday, she registered first-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (15.54) and high jump, tying the existing school record in the event after clearing 1.68 meters (5-06). Davis was also third in the 200 meters (27.03) and tied for third the shot put (9.82m, 32--02.75). Her 4,426 points currently rank No. 3 on NCAA Division III's performance list.

At Carnegie Mellon, Rambo turned in a first-place performance in the discus after launching a top throw of 40.12 meters (131-07) in the 26-competitor field. Saturday was her second-straight win in the event after registering a personal best mark of 43.08m (141-04) at Muskingum University's Amy Adams Memorial Invitational last week. Rambo's throw at Muskingum ranks No. 6 in Division III. 

Also at Carnegie Mellon, seniors Emma Rudolph (Santa Clarita, Calif., Golden Valley) and Jess Fatigati (McDonald, Pa., West Allegheny) finished fifth and ninth, respectively, in the 100 meters. Rudolph posted a time of 12.68 while Fatigati finished in 12.85. Fatigati also finished sixth in the 200 meters (26.45). Freshman Jenna Zendron (West Sunbury, Pa., Moniteau) placed sixth in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 1 minute, 01.20 seconds. She was the top Division III finisher in the event and the time currently tops the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) performance list. 

Sophomore Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell), who also competed in the heptathlon at West Liberty, placed 14th with 2,868 points. Saturday, she finished 10th in the javelin (20.43m, 67-00), 12th in the 800 (3:01.00) and 15th in the long jump (4.38m, 14-04.50). On Friday she was 13th in the 100 hurdles (17.97) and shot put (7.61m, 24-11.75), 14th in the high jump (1.38m, 4-06.25) and 15th in the 200 meters (30.32). 

Westminster is scheduled to participate in the Slippery Rock University Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
