Titans split squad, compete at Carnegie Mellon and West Liberty

Crown finishes third in shot put

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's outdoor track and field program is splitting its squad this weekend, participating in the Carnegie Mellon University Invitational and West Liberty University's Third Annual Tim Weaver Invitational. Freshman Kyle Crown (Lake Milton, Ohio, McDonald) highlighted Friday's performances with a third-place finish in the shot put at Carnegie Mellon. 

Crown, the top Division III finisher behind Slippery Rock University's Joshua Gose and the University of Pittsburgh's Ryan Cook, posted a personal-best mark of 14.80 meters (48-06.75) in the 28-thrower event. It's currently tied for the top mark among Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) competitors this season. 

Also in the shot put, freshman Jack Crider (Apollo, Pa., Kiski) finished 17th (12.40m, 40-08.25) while sophomore Bryce Carroll (Sharon, Pa., Sharon) was 20th (11.53m, 37-10). 

At the Weaver Invitational sophomore Jalen Ritzert (Greenville, Pa., Greenville), competing in the decathlon, sits in fourth place after day one of the 10-event program with 2,486 points. He was second in both the long jump (5.54m, 18-02.25) and 400 meters (56.38), third in the shot put (9.03m, 29-07.50), fifth in the high jump (1.64m, 5-04.50) and sixth in the 100 meters (12.66).

Saturday, events are scheduled to get underway at Carnegie Mellon at 10 a.m. Ritzert will begin the day two program of the decathlon at 12 p.m. at West Liberty, where he will compete in the 110-meter hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin and the 1500-meter run.
