Katigbak 4th in 100 back at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio--Westminster College freshman Jack Katigbak (North Canton, Ohio, Lake Center Christian) highlighted Friday's evening session at The College of Wooster Invitational with a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke. 

The three-day event is being held inside Wooster's Timken Natatorium. Diving events are being contested at the YMCA of Wooster's Ellen Shapiro Natatorium. 

Through 13 scored events, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology leads the eight-team field with 1146.50 points. Westminster is currently in seventh place (365). 

Katigbak registered a top-five finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.99 seconds, dropping close to a half-second off of his time in the preliminaries (53.35). He was the lone freshman to earn a spot in the "A" final of the event.

Sophomore Colton Super (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) finished in seventh place with 297.40 points in the 3-meter diving event. 

Senior Samuel Duda (Tulsa, Okla., Bishop Kelley) posted a time of 4:19.46 to finish ninth and secure the top spot in the "B" finals of the 400 IM, trimming over 11 seconds off of his time in the preliminaries (4:30.80). Senior Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) was 17th (4:33.18) after cutting over four seconds off his preliminary time. Senior Mason Peck (Cary, N.C., Panther Creek) was 18th (4:42.51) after shaving over seconds off of his time Friday morning. 

Freshman Avery Bumbach (Ocala, Fla., Forest) finished 17th in the 200 freestyle (1:49.41) while senior Cory Webster (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) was 24th in the 100 backstroke (1:00.50). 

Westminster opened the evening session with a 12th-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Members included Katigbak, Phillips, Bumbach and Duda. The 800 freestyle relay, made up of Phillips, sophomore Hayne Webster (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro), freshman Ethan Schohn (Pittsburgh, Pa., Plum) and Duda, finished in 10th place (7:36.03). 

Saturday's preliminary events are scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m., with diving to begin at 2 p.m. The finals will commence at 5 p.m.
