Westminster opens season at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa.--The Westminster College men's swimming and diving program opened its season Friday night at PennWest Edinboro, falling to the host Fighting Scots 146-120 at the McComb Fieldhouse. 

Freshman Avery Bumbach (Ocala, Fla., Forest) won the 200 IM with a time of 2 minutes, 06.01 seconds, was second in the 100 fly (55.85) and third in the 100 free (50.61). Freshman Jack Katigbak (North Canton, Ohio, Lake Center Christian) won the 100 back with a time of 55.06, finished second in the 200 back (2:03.87) and was third in the 50 free (23.02). 

Sophomore Colton Super (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) scored a first-place finish on the 1-meter board with a total of 185.10 points.  

Senior Samuel Duda (Tulsa, Okla., Bishop Kelley) was second in the 200 freestyle (1:56.85) and the 200 butterfly (2:24.67) and was third in the 200 back (2:15.34). Senior Mason Peck (Cary, N.C., Panther Creek) was second in the 1000 free (11:30.47) and third in 500 free (5:44.74). Freshman Ethan Schohn (Pittsburgh, Pa., Plum) registered a second-place finish in the 500 free (5:35.47) while senior Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) posted third-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:59.12), the 200 breaststroke (2:26.30) and the 200 IM (2:15.07).

Schoen and seniors Patrick Benedict (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper St. Clair)Jack Mickle (Presto, Pa., Bishop Canevin) and Duda finished second in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:39.53. 

Westminster is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 26, hosting Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Washington & Jefferson College at the Westminster Natatorium. The conference meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
