Westminster men fall in opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's swimming and diving team opened its season Friday night with a 198-90 dual meet setback to John Carroll.

Junior Connor Fritz (Canfield, Ohio, Canfield) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.26 seconds. Junior Dawson Yocum (Flower Mound, Texas, Flower Mound) finished second in the 1000 freestyle (11:13.55).

Junior Mason Peck (Cary, N.C., Panther Creek) was third in the 1000 freestyle (11:48.99). Senior Paul Kallaur (Bethel Park, Pa., Homeschooled) was third in the 50 breaststroke (29.20) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.32). Junior Cory Webster (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) finished third in the 50 freestyle (24.56) and junior Zach Burghgraef (Caledonia, Mich., South Christian) was third in the 100 IM (1:02.40). Junior Samuel Duda (Tulsa, Okla., Bishop Kelley) finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:22.76).

Freshman Gino Piraino (Export, Pa., Franklin Regional) won the 1-meter, 5-dive voluntary competition with 143.18 points. Freshman Colton Super (Aliquippa, Pa., Central Valley) won the 1-meter, 6-dive optionals with 197.03 points.

The 200 freestyle relay was second (1:35.81). Members of the relay included Fritz, Kallaur, Yocum and Burghgraef.

Westminster will host Penn State Behrend on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m.
