Westminster men dealt league dual meet loss by Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's swimming and diving team suffered a 170-121 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet loss to visiting Grove City College Thursday night.

Westminster fell to 4-3 in dual meet competition and 4-1 in PAC duals. Grove City improved to 6-1 overall in dual meets and 4-0 against league opposition.

Westminster divers went 1-2-3 in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events. Graduate student Patrick Holton (Livonia, Mich. | Winston Churchill) won on both boards, scoring 281.15 points on the one-meter and 313.50 points on the three-meter. Junior Sean Perrone (Avondale, Pa. | Kennett) was second on the one-meter (235.75) and the three-meter (247.40). Senior Jake Trzcinski (Beaver Falls, Pa. | Blackhawk) had third-place finishes one the one-meter (209.70) and three-meter (204.45) boards.

Sophomore Dawson Yocum (Flower Mound, Texas | Flower Mound) swam to a runner-up finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10 minutes, 36.38 seconds. He was also the runner-up in the 500 freestyle (5;09.29)

Junior Paul Kallaur (Bethel Park, Pa. | Homeschooled) was the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.55) and finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.35).

Sophomore Samuel Duda (Tulsa, Okla. | Bishop Kelley) finished third in the 100 backstroke (57.42) and the 200 backstroke (2:05.44). Senior Stephen Adametz (Glenshaw, Pa. | Shaler) finished third in the 100 butterfly (57.13) and the 200 butterfly (2:14.75).

Sophomore Mason Peck (Cary, N.C. | Panther Creek) finished third in the 1000 freestyle (10:56.91). Sophomore Zachary Burghgraef (Caledonia, Mich. | South Christian) was third in the 200 freestyle (1:55.79). Sophomore Patrick Benedict (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Upper Saint Clair) was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.79).

Graduate student Kevin MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Carlynton) was third in the 50 freestyle (23.12) and the 100 freestyle (51.38). Junior Jacob Medvitz (Coraopolis, Pa. | Montour) finished third in the 500 freestyle (5:25.82). Sophomore Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa. | Knoch) was third in the 200 IM (2:12.89).

Duda, Kallaur, Adametz and MacMurdo opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:40.85).

Burghgraef, Medvitz, Adametz and freshman Ron Whitehouse (Maryville, Tenn. | Maryville) closed the meet with a runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.46).

Westminster closes its dual meet season Saturday at Mount Union. Events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
