WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster women's basketball team lost, 65-49, on the road Saturday afternoon to Washington & Jefferson in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest. The Titans' six-game winning streak was snapped by the Presidents who remained undefeated in the conference.
Washington & Jefferson (11-3, 8-0 PAC) jumped out to a 10-0 lead with 5:11 remaining in the first quarter. Westminster (9-6, 6-3 PAC) finished the first quarter on a 9-5 run (15-9). In the second quarter, the Titans started with a 7-3 run, cutting the Presidents' lead to three (18-15). At halftime, Washington & Jefferson led 35-21.
In the second half, the Titans cut the Presidents' lead to 53-43, however, Washington & Jefferson kept the lead for the remainder of the game.
"We responded to W&J's runs with some big shots to cut it to 10", said Head Coach
Rosanne Scott. "They came back and made some big shots too. We need to improve our boxing out and spacing on offense".
Westminster was led by junior
Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood), who registered a game-best 21 points to go along with six rebounds (tied a team-high), and two assists. Sophomore
Mariah Vincent (Franklin, PA / Kennedy Catholic) recorded career-highs with nine points and two steals. Senior
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) notched seven points and six boards (tied a team-high), followed by sophomore
Caitlyn Condoleon (Warren, OH / Warren JFK), who tallied a career-best three assists.
The Titans are back in action Wednesday, January 26 as they compete against Geneva on the road in a conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
