BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Westminster women's basketball team lost, 75-73, on the road against Geneva in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) thriller Wednesday night.
Down 58-51 at the start of the fourth quarter, Westminster (9-7, 6-4 PAC) orchestrated a 21-6 run to take a 69-64 lead with 4:38 remaining. Geneva (7-8, 6-4 PAC), however, answered with an 11-2 run. The Golden Tornadoes hit two free throws with 13 seconds left in the game and made it a two-possession game (75-71).
After a tied first quarter (12-12), the Titans conducted a 13-3 run in the middle of the second quarter to take a 27-21 lead. The run was capped off by a driving layup from first-year
Alaina Moore (Weirton, WV / Madonna). At intermission, the Titans led 29-27.
"I think we need to take a while and not play the other team's tempo but play ours", said Head Coach
Rosanne Scott. "I was happy how we came out in the fourth when we were down 10 and came back", Scott added, "Give Geneva credit they made big shots in crunch time".
Westminster was led by junior
Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney), who scored a team-high 15 points with six rebounds, four assists, and a steal. Junior
Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, OH / Ursuline) registered a game-best 16 boards to go along with 13 points and a block. Senior
Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) tallied 12 points, three rebounds, and a team-high three steals. Junior
Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) notched 12 points, eight boards, and a game-best six assists, followed by first-year
Mackenzie Powell (Harrison City, PA / Penn-Trafford) with 10 points (made a career-high two three-pointers), three rebounds, and two assists. Moore registered a career-best four points.
The Titans are back in action Saturday, January 29 as they host Thiel in a PAC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
