GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College men's swimming and diving team lost against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponent Grove City College on Tuesday evening, marking its first loss of the 2021 season.
The Westminster men (2-1) fell to the reigning PAC Champion Wolverines (4-0) by a team score of 201.5-90.5.
The Titans were led by junior diver
Patrick Holton (Livonia, MI / Winston Churchill), who won both the 3 meter (307.25 – season-best) and the 1 meter (280.35 – season-best) dive events for the third time this season. Holton is undefeated in diving events this season and the 3 meter score he achieved this evening is the best 6 dive score in NCAA Division III, while his 1 meter score is fourth in the country. Westminster was also boosted by junior diver
Austin Shaw (Gibsonia, PA / Pine-Richland), who finished second in both the 3 meter (299.55) and 1 meter (263.40) events, both season-best 6 dive scores. Shaw's 3 meter score is the second-best 6 dive score among NCAA Division III counterparts, only behind Holton's, while his 1 meter score is 14
th.
Also earning second-place finishes for the Titans were senior
Blaine Sorrick (Mantua, OH / Crestwood), junior
Trevor McCabe (Avon, NY / Avon Central) and sophomore
Stephen Adametz (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler Area). Sorrick placed second in the 50 freestyle (22.08), McCabe finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:17.87) and Adametz was second in the 200 IM (2:19.60).
Sorrick and McCabe also paired with juniors
Jacob Musselman (Denver, PA / Cocalico) and
Kevin MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, PA / Carlynton) to finish second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:28.09.
The Westminster men's swimming and diving team will now re-group before Tuesday, March 2 when it returns to Grove City, Pennsylvania for the first day of the PAC Championship meet.
