CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Westminster College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at California University (PA) for the Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.
For the Titan men, sophomore
Clay O'Dell (Vienna, OH / Kennedy Catholic) placed third in the high jump with a height of 6 feet 3.5 inches (1.92m). O'Dell also finished 12
th out of 27 in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet 10.5 inches (5.75m). First-year
Amon Sams (Chantilly, VA / John Champe) finished top ten in two individual events; seventh out of 46 in the 200 (22.95) and eighth out of 34 in the 100 (11.25). Sams was also the third leg of the fifth-place 4x100 relay team (43.39). Other members of the 4x100 team were junior
Bryce Hill (Boynton Beach, FL / Boca Raton Community), senior
Jaevon Hardy (Waldorf, MD / North Point), and senior
African Grant II (Warren, OH / Warren JFK). Hill also finished 11
th in the 100 (11.39). The quartet of Hardy, first-year
Vincent Giles (Lexington Park, MD / Great Mills), sophomore
Dalton Anderson (Butler, PA / Moniteau), and first-year Jacob Mussleman (Denver, PA / Cocalico) finished third in the 4x400 relay (3:31.92). Anderson also finished sixth out of 35 in the javelin throw with a toss of 168 feet 9 inches (51.45m). Mussleman and junior
Ian Miller (Sarver, PA / Freeport) added top 20 finishes in the 400 (out of 38) and 200 (out of 46), with Mussleman finishing eighth (52.17) and 12
th (23.50) and Miller finishing 16
th (54.89) and 19
th (24.06), respectively. Keister added a 10
th place finish out of 25 in the 400 hurdles (1:01.06).
The Titan women had a pair of first-place relay teams. The foursome of sophomore
Natalie Schwarz (Hudson, OH / Hudson), senior
Nicole Cress (Saxonburg, PA / Knoch), sophomore
Selena Thomas (Farrell, PA / Farrell Area), and junior
Maura Belding (Columbiana, OH / Crestview) won the 4x100 relay with a time of 51.46. Belding and Cress also began the first two legs of the first-place 4x400 team (4:25.89); completing the quartet were sophomores Haley Moore (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg Central Catholic) and
Erin Ward (Euclid, OH / Lake Catholic). Thomas also finished top five in multiple events, placing third out of 27 in the 100 (12.81) and fifth in the 200 (28.54). Cress finished 10
th in the 100 (13.38) and eighth in the 200 (27.00). Schwarz also finished 17
th in the 200 (28.54). Ward also finished 10
th out of 35 in the 800 (2:29.11), while sophomore Kelly Somora (Grove City Area / Grove City, PA) finished 17
th (2:36.79). Schrantz finished sixth in the 5,000 with a time of 18:50.17. Sophomore
Madeline Keenan (Cranberry, PA / Cranberry Area) finished 10
th in the javelin throw with a throw of 87 feet 10 inches (26.78m).
Westminster will next compete at Carnegie Mellon Saturday, March 30.
