GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams both lost their first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet of the season at Grove City College Thursday night.
The Titan women's team (4-3, 3-1 PAC) lost, 152-148, while the Titan men's team (5-1, 2-1 PAC) lost, 187-109. The deciding event for the women came down to the final event - the 200 freestyle relay. The Wolverines just edged the Titans with a time of 1:42.33, only .55 faster than Westminster.
Westminster won 11 total events (seven by the women's team and four by the men's team).
For the women, junior
Abigail Jones (Cabot, PA / Knoch) won a pair of individual events. Jones touched first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:34.38) and the 200 individual medley (2:19.60). First-year
Marissa Bowers (Cuyahoga Falls, OH / Cuyahoga Falls) also earned two victories with first-place finishes in the 100 backstroke (1:03.09) and 200 backstroke (2:15.90). Senior
Carolyn Novak (Pittsburgh, PA / Upper St. Clair) won the 100 freestyle (56.85). Also picking up an individual win was junior
Maggie Manolis (Jeannette, PA / Jeannette) in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.78). First-year
Megan Routch (Imperial, PA / West Allegheny) finished first in the 500 freestyle (5.35.39), second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.64), and second in the 1000 freestyle (11:30.78). Sophomore
Zoe Cable (Brookville, PA / Brookville Area) finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 224.55 and 238.60, respectively.
For the men, Titan sophomore
Connor May (Highlands Ranch, CO / Glacier Park) swept the diving events, winning the 1-meter (333.30) and 3-meter (305.05). Senior
David Peffer (Ellwood City, PA / Riverside) won an individual event and finished second in another. Peffer won the 200 backstroke (1:54.10) and finished second in the 100 backstroke (52.88). Senior
Michael Spencer (Clearfield, PA / Clearfield) finished second in the 50 freestyle (22.32) and was the last leg of the 200 freestyle relay that won with a time of 1:28.98. Completing the foursome were sophomore
