CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Westminster College men's and women's soccer team both lost nonconference matches at Case Western Reserve Saturday night. The Titan men lost 6-0 and the Titan women lost 4-0.
Westminster's men's team falls to 3-10-3 on the season, while Case's men improve to 9-4-3. Westminster's women are now 9-8-1 and the Case women are 9-5-1.
In the men's game, Case's Eric Erb scored in the 21st minute and the Spartans led 1-0 at halftime. Erb assisted on Jordan Fox's goal in the 54th minute and the Spartans scored four more second-half goals including two by Phil Debauche.
Case outshot Westminster, 24-1, and two Westminster goalkeepers surrendered the six goals. Senior goalkeeper Mike Codita (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) allowed four goals and made six saves, while sophomore Adam Kephart (Beaver Falls, Pa./Beaver County Christian) surrendered two goals with two stops.
Two Case Western Reserve goalkeepers combined for the shutout but neither needed to make a save.
Like the men's game, the Case Western Reserve women led 1-0 at halftime. Kendra Simmons scored the first of two goals in the game in the 40th minute. Her penalty-kick goal in the first minute of the second half gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
Case outshot Westminster, 14-3. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Moyer (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) made five saves for Westminster, while Anna Kennedy secured the shutout for Case by making two saves.
The Westminster men and women return to conference play at Bethany Wednesday for a doubleheader. The men play at 3:30 p.m. followed by the women at 7:30 p.m.
