Westminster wins 9-0 at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's soccer team cruised to a 9-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Thiel Wednesday evening inside Alumni Stadium at Stoeber Field.  

Westminster improved to 2-9-4 overall and 2-5-2 in the PAC with the win. 

The Titans scored four goals in the first half and added five more in the second. Eight different players scored for Westminster, with six scoring the first goals of their career. Twenty-four players saw action Wednesday. 

Senior Amanda Lewis (Slippery Rock, Pa., Slippery Rock) recorded her second goal of the year in the 20th minute before senior Chloe Lindquist (Ogden, Utah, Ogden) scored her second of the season 37 seconds later. Senior Kim Cora (Wexford, Pa., Eden Christian Academy) scored her first career goal off an assist from junior Brooke Galcik (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) in the 34th minute. Galcik send the Titans into halftime sporting a 4-0 lead with a goal in the 40th minute. It was her first career score. 

Freshman Autum Fichter (North Canton, Ohio, Hoover) scored just over three minutes into the second half before junior Ashley Vith (McKees Rocks, Pa., Montour) scored off junior Abbey Whaley's (Monongahela, Pa., Ringgold) assist in the 50th minute to stretch the lead to 6-0. Freshman Alayna Kelly (Hookstown, Pa., South Side) scored in the 57th minute, giving Westminster a 7-0 lead. The goals were career firsts for Fichter, Vith and Kelly. Galcik netted her second of the match in the 72nd minute off an assist from freshman Hailey McQueen (Sellersville, Pa., Faith Christian Academy) before senior Mairin Turek (Clinton, Pa., South Side) scored the first of her career in the 80th minute. 

Four goalkeepers saw action in the shutout. Senior Morgan Murphy (Yardley, Pa., Villa Joseph Marie) played the first 25:13 while junior Emily Codere (Shelton, Conn., Shelton) finished out the remainder of the opening half. Freshman Kylie Terhaar (Haymarket, Va., Battlefield) played 13 minutes to start the second and classmate Claire Lindsey (Shepherdstown, W.Va., Jefferson) played the remaining 32 minutes. 

Westminster finished with a 37-0 advantage in shots and had an 19-0 edge in shots on goal. Westminster had four corner kicks. Thiel (0-15, 0-9 PAC) did not attempt a corner.

Westminster will celebrate its Senior Recognition Day Saturday when it hosts Bethany (1-12, 0-8 PAC) at the UPMC Sports Complex. Senior Day events will begin at 12:05 p.m., with the match scheduled to get underway at 12:30 p.m.
