NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team won its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener Saturday by beating Waynesburg, 2-1, at home. The Titans snap a four-game winless streak to improve to 5-4-1 on the season and 1-0 in the PAC. Waynesburg falls to 6-3-2 on the year and 0-1 in the league.
Westminster senior forward Sarah Nee (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) moved into the lead in for PAC with her league-best 10th goal of the season on an unassisted goal in the 16th minute. She then assisted on a second-half goal by classmate Danielle Struble (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville) in the 58th minute.
The Titans nearly posted a shutout, but Waynesburg's Amy Macurdy scored with 14 seconds left in the game, beating Westminster junior goalkeeper Lindsay Moyer (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg), who made four saves.
Westminster held a 9-5 shot advantage.
The Titans play at Grove City Wednesday for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
